First-Ever Beer Cap-Shaped Coin

Celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Bavarian Purity Laws that standardized beer as we know it today!

In 1516, William IV, Duke of Bavaria, executed the Bavarian Beer Purity Law, also known as the “Reinheitsgebot.” The Purity Law states that only ingredients that could be used were barely, hops, and water. This not only preserved the quality and recipe of their beer, but it also ensured that wheat and rye were not used up for beer-making during times of famine. At the time, yeast had not yet been discovered, so yeast was not included in the law. This is one of the earliest examples of regulations on food and beverages.

To celebrate this important moment in history, the national of Palau has authorized silver commemorative proof coins. Struck from 2.5 grams of pure silver, these coins were minted in the shape of an actual beer bottle cap – a numismatic first! The mintage has been limited to only 999 coins.

ModernCoinMart is pleased to offer the Bavarian Purity Law coins in the original Mint packaging or certified by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) in Prooflike condition with Early Releases designations.

With only 999 coins available, don’t risk waiting and missing out on this unique release. Head to a Bierzelt (beer tent), grab a bierkrug (beer stein), and bring a little taste of Oktoberfest to your collection.
