I updgraded from the Canon EOS 40D to EOS 80D, and decided to see how it performs on macros. I hadn’t done coin photography for quite awhile, and it’s 115F outside, so here we go into the world of metal decay!

There are two types of cool things that can happen to coins over time: chemical reaction and age marks.

This Canadian proof silver dollar from 1973 shows extreme oxidation as well as some type of other chemical reaction, leading to some crazy organic patterns. What’s especially odd is that this is a "proof" coin, so it had a perfectly flat and shiny surface to start. The other older coins show how interesting age marks can be on coins.
